It doesn’t seem that long ago that any conversation about Keto had to start with an explanation of what it wasn’t. That it wouldn’t kill you in a month. Not a fad but rather a lifelong choice if you want optimum health. And the basic difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis (which will kill you).
Now there’s a different sort of clarification convo that needs to be had. What does ‘Keto Friendly‘ labeling mean? Friends, a 12 inch cauliflower crust pizza containing 26 grams of carbs per slice, but advertising ‘Keto Friendly’ because there’s no added sugar is predatory and dishonest. Ugh. Two steps forward, one step back sometimes.
I’ll take it as a good sign though, marketing machines gonna market, misuse labels, and trap a lot folks that can’t or won’t do some basic research like reading the required nutrition listing right on the box. Whatever, you do you, but if you don’t at least do that, and just rely on marketing tags like ‘Keto Friendly’ you’ll suffer for it.
Here at Keto House we’re gonna make it stupid simple to get the right stuff, call out the bad stuff, sell some easy peasy shortcut stuff (as I like to call it, ‘Food that isn’t trying to kill you.’), and maybe have some fun along the way.
That said, I’m not interested in joining the ‘Facebook Open Mouth in Every Pic, So Excited and Dramatic it’s Annoying AF’ club. If you need that, there’s already plenty out there for you so go nuts. We’re gonna focus on science, good data, good taste, ease of access, speed of preparation, and practical everyday Keto. Even when you don’t feel like it and somehow Slice found it’s way back on your phone.
It’s always easier to make poor choices than it is to make better good ones isn’t it? When was the last time you went to the line of food trucks and just grabbed something yummy without either;
- A lot of explaining and and bargaining to get something close to what you want, OR –
- Scanning the menu and remembering that the juice ain’t worth the squeeze, and walking away wishing the protein bar in your pocket was a better.
That’s just one example of something we’d like to change. From what’s in your fridge and freezer, to new easy choices that are generally available ‘in the world’ for us fat adapted folk. But it’s gonna take time, and your help and support, and time, and money, and then more of all of that. 🙂 So let’s get started shall we?
